She was polite and kind, but her sadness seemed painfully obvious. ![]() During that first interview I remember thinking that, unsurprisingly, Blige was relatively low-energy and felt somewhat disconnected. In the weeks leading up to that first interview, news had broken that Blige was in the middle of negotiating a messy and difficult divorce from her husband of 13 years, who was also her manager. I’d had the distinct honor (and daunting task) of interviewing Blige once before, for a different project, in 2017.
